Tanganyika Business Summit and Festival, was conducted from 9th – 11th May, 2019 as the first business summit and festival to happen in Kigoma. The objective of the Summit was bringing together stakeholder from the United Republic of Tanzania and neighboring countries across Lake Tanganyika to deliberate and come up with the joint agreements that will spell out commitment of each Country to resolve issues impending cross border trade.
The Business Summit was officiated by the Depute Minister from PO-RALG, Mr. Josephat Kandale and attended by Kigoma and Kagera Region Commissioners, Kigoma and Kagera Region Administrative Secretaries and other Government officials and businessmen from Burundi, DR Congo, Rwanda and Zambia. On 11th of May the summit and festival was closed by Minister of State in Prime Minister’s Office, Investment, Ms. Angellah Kairuki representing the Vice President of United Republic of Tanzania H.E Samia Suluhu Hassan.
Among of the 24 summit resolutions that aimed to improve the business environment and networks between these countries are the elimination of visas between the United Republic of Tanzania and the Democratic Republic of Congo, the presence of transparency in the transportation activities and the introduction of a joint program to deal with cross border trade as well as presence of informal controls of non-formal levies at the border areas. The summit and festival was organized by Kigoma Regional Administration in collaboration with Tanzania Chamber of Commerce, Industries and Agriculture (TCCIA) Kigoma, TANTRADE, Tanzania Investment Centre (TIC), Local Investment Climate (LIC), Tanzania National Business Council (TNBC), Alliance for a Green Revolution in Africa (AGRA) and Afro-Premiere. Local Investment Climate (LIC) as one the organizer of the summit and festival, used this opportunity showcase and explain its objective and the framework of intervention as well as what have been realized so far in the past Four Years through the LIC briefs and brochures to various stakeholders such as: Government officials and businessmen.
