On August 2019, Local Investment Climate Team with 7 youth representative from supported youth projects from Dodoma and Kigoma Region had attended the Nanenane farmers Exhibition. The exhibition which is known much as “Farmers event” is taking place every year in August with the aim of promoting agriculture sector by bringing together all small scale farmers, companies and organizations involved in agriculture value chain and allow them to present, sell and showcase what they do and their products to the community.
This year the exhibition in the national level was held at Nyakabindi ground in Simiyu Region for 15 days from 28th of July to 11th of August and was attended by more than 300 participants. The exhibition was officially launched in 1st of August by the Vice President of United Republic of Tanzania, H.E. Samia Suluhu Hassan, accompanied by Minister and Deputy Minister of Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries, Region Commission of Simiyu, and Kigoma and other various government officials.
The key theme of Nanenane this year is “Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries for Economic Growth"
The theme was decided by the exhibition preparation committee basically as the strategic for promoting agriculture sector and enlighten the economic opportunity that are found in it.
Apart from only attending Nanenane exhibition, youths had a chance to participate and attend workshop and trainings that aimed at revealing opportunities which are embedded in agriculture, fishery, livestock and share expediencies which various partners conducted studies. The workshop was organized by Economic and Social Research Foundation (ESRF) and United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and Trainings were organized by Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries.
On 6th August 2019, the youth had attended the workshop on Agribusiness; the workshop was colored by ten presentations from the experts in respective areas of specialization. The presentations, covered wider subject areas including; poultry, entrepreneurship, green house technology, Hydroponic fodder, Hydroponic vegetable, aquaponic and circulative fish farming. Other areas include; fish farming by using ponds and cages, modern beekeeping and Azolla as animal feed and Bio-fertilizer.
The workshop was graced by Hon. Mizengo Peter Kayanza Pinda- the Retired Prime Minister of the United Republic of Tanzania. In his opening speech, the Guest of Honour of the workshop among other important things he insisted on turning research into action. Hon. Pinda said it is a high time now to go down to farmers, livestock keepers and others on opportunities which are available after conducting research.
Youth also attended daily trainings that were organized by Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries which covers the areas of fish and poultry farming.
Furthermore the exhibition has opened business connections and linkages between participating youth and business stakeholders who were interesting in the work of the youth groups especially in the area of fish farming. The interest in youth projects was developed as the result of presentations made by youth at LIC pavilion.
Later on the team had the opportunities to be interviewed by TBC media and ITV on the concept of LIC programme and youth into agribusiness project.
The exhibition was closed by the Prime Minister of United Republic of Tanzania; Hon Kassim Majaliwa on Thursday, August 8, 2019.
